With the ever-increasing burden of Cancer disease in population at large, institute realized that the majority of patients visiting Cancer Institute have been diagnosed at advanced stages out of 4 defined stages of Cancer. Whereas, patients’ overall survival and prognosis becomes better in early stages of Cancer. There is a profound role of early diagnosis of invasive cancer and pre-cancerous lesions in containing the monarch of this dreaded disease.

To diagnose patients in earlier stages of cancer, CHRI is pushing through Cancer Awareness Drive in population, so the cancer could be eradicated efficiently and more importantly at initial stage itself.

Organizing camps in rural & urban areas help us in spreading awareness amongst population to detect invasive and early stages of Cancers in the people attending those camps.

Preventive oncology embraces measures that may be taken to prevent the development or progression of malignant disease. Healthy lifestyle holds the key to cancer prevention. Up to 40% of all cancers can be prevented by avoiding tobacco and adopting other healthy habits. Regular screening helps detect many cancers in early stages, when they can be treated successfully. Department of Preventive Oncology primarily focuses on creating awareness among the public about the need to screen for early detection of cancer. Department provides screening for three most common cancers (Breast, Cervix, and Oral cancers) at highly subsidized rates in the OPD and totally free of cost through community based cancer detection camps.

Our Regional Cancer Centre had organized and reviewed periodic camps in various towns of MP, UP & Rajasthan throughout the year.
Awareness programs in schools and colleges
Regular Cancer Screening OPDs in Gwalior city and outside in MP, UP and Rajasthan.
Organizing training programs for doctors and paramedical staffs.
To make available free railway pass, estimate certificate for underprivileged patients to avail financial assistance.
Free services i.e.- Pap Smear, FNAC & True cut Biopsy etc. inside cancer screening van during camps.
